Postdoctoral position in Medical Imaging applied for knee Interventions

As part of the FOLLOW-KNEE university-hospital research program, that aimed at implementing an innovative solution for the treatment of osteoarthritis of the knee, the consortium, led by Inserm and bringing together several industrial, institutional and clinical partners, is hiring a postdoctoral researcher.

The position is based at LATIM (Laboratoire de Traitement de l'Information Médicale), a joint research unit between the University Hospital of Brest, the University of Brest, IMT Atlantique (high level Engineering School) and accredited by Inserm. Born from the complementarity between the fields of STIC and health, LATIM is nationally and internationally recognized for its expertise, its contribution in medical imaging and, the implementation of innovative solutions in oncology and interventional therapies.

The objective of the proposed research is to improve the overall functional outcomes of knee replacement surgery by optimizing pre-operative rehabilitation called pre-rehabilitation.

We assume that the design of a new active pre-rehabilitation regimen for the flexor-extensor musculature around the knee joint would have a positive impact on the overall success and longevity of the implant. In this perspective, we propose to work on personalized pre-surgical rehabilitation strategies allowing the restoration of a muscular balance of the flexor-expanders located around the knee. This customized program will be derived from estimates of the patient's muscle volume using a combination of medical image processing and statistical shape models (SSM).
